Yes, walk-ins are welcome. We even have a lounge space downstairs for drinks if there’s a short wait for tables. Bookings are recommended, especially at busy times.
There’s currently no limit. We’re already taking bookings for Christmas events.
Yes. We currently have around ten vegetarian dishes on the menu and often run specials, including vegetarian options.
Yes, many of our dishes can be adapted to be gluten-free.
Yes. We’re experienced in accommodating allergies and usually don’t need advance notice — though letting us know ahead of time is always appreciated.
Absolutely. While we don’t have a dedicated kids’ menu, many dishes — like chicken kushi skewers — are kid-friendly. High chairs can be arranged via our sister restaurant two doors down.
Yes, we’re very happy to welcome four-legged friends.
We accept contactless card payments, including Amex.
Yes. We have two private rooms downstairs that can be set up for dining, drinks, or karaoke. Each fits around 12 seated or up to 20 standing. Exclusive hire is also available for the terrace, ground floor, and basement.

Yes, we have a ramp. Unfortunately, we don’t currently have accessible toilets.
We’re at 5 Ramsden Road, Balham, SW12 8QX — opposite the Waitrose car park and two doors down from Freak Scene Balham.
Take any exit, then cross towards Pret a Manger. Walk along Balham High Road for around 2–3 minutes, then turn left onto Ramsden Road. Pass Freak Scene Balham and you’ll see us on the left.
Street parking is available but often busy. The Waitrose opposite usually has spaces, and Sainsbury’s on Balham High Road has a larger car park.
Kushiyaki are skewered foods grilled over charcoal — a Tokyo izakaya classic.
No. Our focus is kushiyaki, otsumami drinking snacks, and seasonal rice hot pots. But our sister restaurant Freak Scene Balham, two doors down, does serve sushi.
Yes — our drinks list features both, alongside ice-cold Kirin beer.
Yes. Kuroyoko is the sister restaurant of Freak Scene Balham, both created by chef Scott Hallsworth.
Scott Hallsworth — former Head Chef of Nobu London and Nobu Melbourne, and founder of cult Asian restaurants including Kurobuta, Double Dragon and Freak Scene.
Inspired by Tokyo’s yokocho bars, Kuroyoko is a Japanese kushiyaki restaurant in Balham, London SW12, serving smoky skewers, sake, and evoking the restless spirit of Japanese backstreet dining. Hidden beneath the restaurant, guests can take the mic in the dedicated karaoke room. Kuroyoko is the latest creation from chef Scott Hallsworth, known for Nobu, Kurobata and Freak Scene.
